I’m Dr. Whitnee Coy, an award-winning writer and educator based in Rapid City, South Dakota. With a deep passion for poetry and storytelling, I create worlds that captivate and educate, especially through my children’s books and poetry.

I’ve published three chapbooks of poetry: Cicurate (SD State Poetry Society), Kintsukuroi (Finishing Line Press), and this deep, wide, dark world (Alien Buddha Press), with a fourth, A Limb Outgrowing a Weathered Tree, set to release in July 2025 from Finishing Line Press.

My debut children’s book, Elsie’s Adventures to Brainy Cove, hit #1 on Amazon’s New Releases for Children’s Books on Self-Esteem and Self-Respect and won the prestigious 2024 Golden Wizard Book Prize for children’s literature.

 

This summer, I’m excited to release my follow-up, Elsie’s Adventures to Harmony Hills: The Big Move, continuing Elsie’s journey of self-discovery and growth.

Additionally, my full-length poetry collection We Left Constellations in Each Other will be released by Kelsay Books in Summer 2025.

I’m passionate about literature, teaching, and building meaningful connections through words and stories. Whether writing, teaching, or engaging with my community, I strive to inspire others, especially young minds, to embrace the power of creativity, resilience, and self-expression.
